If you're going to be in Paris, the Sacre Coeur (also called Sacre Cur) is a definite must-see attraction. This Basilica, also known as the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, is located at the Montmartre butte which is the highest point in the city. The church is resplendent in bright white, and stands out as one of the most beloved landmarks in all of Paris. Constructed late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Basilica stands today as a place of worship and a popular tourist attraction.

There are plenty of beautiful things to see when you visit the Sacre Coeur. The exterior of the basilica is built in Roman-Byzantine style from Travertine stone. One of the first things you will notice are the bronze statues of Joan of Arc and King Saint Louis IX.

Another prominent feature is the Savoyarde bell, which is extremely weighty at nineteen tons. Other highlights include the Christ in Majesty mosaic located in the apse area. In the back of the altar area you will find another noteworthy mosaic entitled Christ's Passion.

When you visit the Basilica you should definitely go to the top of the dome for an incredible view of the city. Another popular area is the meditation garden which features a beautiful fountain. Yet another highlight of the Sacre Coeur is the organ. It is very large, featuring 90 speaking stops. It was originally constructed for a private home by Aristide Cavaille-Coll. There are so many incredible features at the Sacre Coeur you'll be hard pressed to choose a favorite.

Admission to the Sacre Coeur Basilica is free, but admission to the tower costs 4.50 Euros. Whether you come to the Sacred Heart to experience French history, to pray or to visit stunning architecture, you are sure to enjoy the time spent at this magnificent and sacred site.
