ISLAND OF HYDRA
The Greek island of Hydra is one of the premier tourist destinations in the world today. In the 1950′s and 60′s, the island was discovered by artists, which is why this destination has a reputation for being an artist’s haven. One fantastic thing about the island is that any kind of motor vehicle is prohibited. If you need to get somewhere in Hydra, you may find yourself on the back of a donkey! Friendly natives, gorgeous natural wonders and white-hot nightlife are just a few reasons why so many tourists spend their vacation on the island of Hydra.
There are a variety of great places to stay while on the island, including quaint villas and modern hotels. Not only are there great places to stay, there are lots of fun and exciting things to see and do. Explore the charming village of Hydra Town, with its stone alleyways and gorgeous mansions. If you want to spend some time on the beach, you’ll find that the majority of beaches on the island are made from pebbles. There are, however, fishing ports, boating excursions and a windsurfing center located on the Mandraki beach.
One of the major attractions on Hydra is its nightlife. You’ll find bars and clubs that feature lots of delicious cocktails and blaring-loud music. If you love to dance, the clubs in Hydra do not disappoint. The nightlife on the island is often compared to that of Mykonos, only smaller and more cosmopolitan in nature. At many of the island’s taverns, you can relax with a drink, listen to great live music and sample some great Greek cuisine.
Speaking of cuisine, Hydra is a food-lover’s paradise. Two of the most popular restaurants found in Hydra Town are the Vigla Restaurant and Ydronetta Restaurant. Here you can dine on authentic Greek food and fine wine while indulging in some relaxing people-watching.
For an experience you’ll never forget, spend some time on the island of Hydra. You’ll return home with memories that last a lifetime!
