prague europe zooWhen you are in Prague for a visit and you want to complete your stay with a full experience of everything that the quaint old city has to offer, then go to Prague Zoo.

Prague has been one of Europe’s more popular cities, with the town having preserved its old buildings and other ancient structures such as castles, towers, churches and bridges over the years. For nature and animal lovers alike, visiting this zoo in the midst of the ancient structures in the city of Prague should give you a fresh perspective on things.

As compared to other city zoos in other parts of the world, Prague Zoo is a bit large and involves quite a lot of sightseeing - on foot. The entire zoo area is not just made up of a flat surface – there is a river, some rocky cliffs and slopes, as well as a sprawling meadow where the resident animals live.

‘Prague Zoo Over the Years’

Prague Zoo, located north of the city, was built and officially opened to the viewing public in 1931. It was then dubbed as a zoological garden for animal species.

One of the highlights of the zoo’s history was in 1938, when the first Andean vulture was hatched. In the early 1940’s, a female Ilun or polar bear was bred in an artificial manner. In the late 1950’s, Prague zoo flourished and has become world famous for its success in breeding and rearing almost extinct animal species.

Just like other zoos built in other parts of the world, Prague Zoo aims to protect wildlife, protect the local ecological system and promote the preservation of a lot of animal species.

After a flood, which harmed the entire city in 2002, the zoo was restored and the people of Prague recovered. It is now home to over 600 species from around the world, occupying 45 hectares of green land

With a spectacular view of the city skyline in the background, you can just take a deep breath and surely, a smile will touch your face as you take in all the sights and sounds offered by Prague zoo.
